So it is the begining of my last week of classes before winter break and I have so much work to do! I have to take five finals this week and three papers to write. I am so swamped with work that i cant even begin to explain how stressed out I am. And to top it off I have an ear infection. This week keeps getting worse and worse. I am trying to make deadlines for each assignment that i have to complete for each of my classes…but the work seens like it is never ending. It is very difficult to try to study for five exams all in the same week. There is way to much information to try to learn in such a short amount of time. This is definitely different than trying to study for high school finals!
I am just trying to pick my classes for next semester when I realize that there are 20 different english 102/comp 2 classes there are to choose from. I think that this gives students an opportunity to get to somewhat have a choice in what topic that they wish to write about. I know that I do not enjoy writing about topics that I dont like or care for. This will give the students of Westfield State College an opportuity to write about topics that they enjoy rather than having to write about specific topics that the professor assigns. Some of these classes include writing about the 60′s, food in american culture, nature, rock ‘n’ roll, sports, and even war. Anyone would be able to find a topic that they would enjoy writing about because of the vast number of choices that WSC gives its students. I also think that having these themed classes will increase the likelyhood that students will attend class more often and get higher grades because they are writing about topics that they enjoy.
I recently went to the play Tartuffe. At first I was like oh well this is going to be like every other play that I have seen, nice and boring. But I was wrong, the students of Westfield State College did an amazing job acting out this play. I suggest that anyone that is looking for something to do should go and see this play.
This play play starts off with Orgon, Head of the House, thinking that Tartuffe is such a great religious man. But he will soon figure out how wrong he is. Orgon wants his daughter, Mariane to marry Tartuffe. But Mariane is in love with Valere. Mariane’s father thinks that Tartuffe would be perfect for his daughter to marry because he is so loyal and religious. Damis, Orgon’s son and Flipote, the house servent try to persuade Orgon who the real Tartuffe really is. But Orgon doesnt believe what they are saying to him. Orgon gets really upset when they talk bad about his so called ”brother,” Tartuffe.
Orgon finally figures out by the end of the play that Tartuffe is a schemeing hypocrite. Tartuffe is constantly scheming around Orgon’s back, using him for all of the gifts that he has received from Orgon. By the time Orgon figures out who the real Tartuffe really is, it is too late. Tartuffe has control of Orgon’s house, family, and finances all because Orgon trusted this horrible deceiving man. But right at the last seconds left in the play, the King interjects and Tartuffe is arrested and brought to prison for all of the trouble that he has caused with Orgon and his family. In the end, everything works out for the whole family and they are free from all of the trouble that Tartuffe has caused to them
I recently read both the blog of Ginny0913 and ehamel1550 both of these people talk about how Westfield State College is supposed to be going smoke free next year. Ginny0913 says that she disagrees with the thought of Westfield State College banning smoking. She thinks that the school could come up with a better way to avoid the problem of people smoking. she also believes that if you are 18 and you want to harm your body with the dangerous chemical, nicotine, they you should be able to. I still can’t understand why anyone would ever want to purposely harm their own body. Like you know the short-term and long-term effects of what smoking does to your body so why would you want to do that to yourself? Cigarettes are so expensive theses days too, how can college students even afford them? Smoking is such a waste of money, you are basically paying for a shortened life due to the harmful toxins that are now in your body due to smoking!
On the contrary, ehamel1550 believes that smoking is a big problem on campus. Students on campus do not follow the rule of being 25 feet away from any building in order to smoke. Just the other day i saw a kid light a cigarette in the doorway of Wilson Hall. If Westfield State College really thinks that smoking is a problem, then they need to get some staff members that are going to actually enforce the rules. I suffer from asthma and every time i go to Wilson Hall, i have to walk by about 15 kids smoking. This just really annoys me that the school isnt doing anything about the issue until nest year. I am also very interested in seeing what next year is going to bring to the students that smoke. Will they still smoke on campus? Will they fight the school about the issue? Will the school actually enforce this policy?
I recentely read an article about a woman, Denise Lee, in Florida that was abducted from her home. He husband came home from work and found his 10 month old and two year old sons all alone in the house. Her husband, Nathan Lee called the police right away. The police were supposedly looking for the abducted woman, Denise Lee. Denise actually ended up calling the police herself from her abducters cell phone. The police tracked the cell phone so they figured out that Michael King was the abducter. Meanwhile, some woman that saw Denise Lee screaming in the car next to her on the high way and she was calling the police to tell them about what she was witnessing. But the witness said that the opperator wasnt understanding what she was telling her. Just because the opperator didnt understand the witnesses lead, she didnt send out the information that could have lead them to find Denise before she was killed.
This is just another reason why our law enforcement system needs to be improved! This woman could have been found before she was murdered. Nathan Lee, Denises’ husband is sueing the Charlette County Florida authorities for $200,000 for the wrongful death of his wife. I think that our law enforcement administration has a long way to go in order to ensure that one of these stupid mistakes never happens again. Whoever that opperator was should be the one that is sued and sentenced to jailtime. She just ruined the life of a young mother who was just starting a family with her husband. Now her husband is left alone to raise two young boys.
I just read a blog that talked about how westfield state college has ridiculous fines. Twenty five dollars for a toilet that wasnt flush!!!Are you kidding me that is just absolutely CRAZY! This person also said that an old sofa was stolen and they had to pay $1000 for it. How can someone steal a sofa and not be able to fine it in one of the students dorms. The R.A’s or R.D’s should look more into the situation instead of just fining the whole hall for a sofa that one person stole. You should not have to pay for someone elses stupidity…do you agree? Why would I pay to live somewhere where I have to pay for the people that are idsrespecting their own living space. I believe that you should only have to pay for damages that you are involved in. If you break something then man up and say that you did it so that not everyone in your hall has to pay for your damages. This blogger is correct, we pay so much money in order to live in these dorms anyways that all of these so called little $25 fines add up to being thousands by the end of the year. I agree that some fines are necessary but not all of them have t be at such a high cost. The blogger also said that it could cost up to $100 for not closing a shower curtain. How do these people come up with the prices of these fines?? Who makes up these prices and how acurate or not acurate are they?? visit the bloggers site here http://ltran3288.wordpress.com/
I recently read an article on CNN about how facebook can be a place where identity theft can occur. It said that giving such information such as your birthday can be a way so called “ bad guys” can figure out other information about yourself. Since most people use their birthdays in password and other identification numbers, these cybercriminals can try to get onto your Facebook or even pose as someone else. Another trick that cybercriminals try to do is send a post to your Facebook wall. If you click this link, the criminal can access your sign in information. These people can try to use the username and password to try to get into other sites that you might belong to like Twitter. When posting things on you wall or status, be aware that everyone can look at what it says. The article had an example about how some man from Arizona tweeted that he was going away on vacation and when he got back his house had been broken into. So be smart when you are posting things on these different sites. Also, dont accept friend requests from people you dont know. They could be trying to steal your identity in some way. You have no idea what they are trying to or why they want to be your friend. You need to restrict certain Facebook friends from seeing certain information that you have. For example, dont have your address or phone number posted so people other than you family and close friends that you trust can see it. Facebook and Twitter are places where you can interact with people that you know and trust, not a place to talk/be friends with random people that you don’t know!
